How to apply gel polish? - Step by step

Color gel (or gel polish) is used to strengthen and/or decorate nails in different colors.

It is just like a nail polish except that it gives a result that lasts up to 3-4 weeks and requires curing under a UV or LED lamp.

It is important to remember that the key to getting a lasting result is to be super careful about preparing your nails properly.
Product must not come into contact with cuticles or sides of the nail.
The cuticles need to be pushed down/filed away or the color/building material needs to be applied a bit away from the cuticles.

Materials you need:

  1. Color gel (Gel polish) in the color you want
  2. Nail file
  3. Buffer
  4. Nail wipes
  5. Pre-cleanser
  6. Primer
  7. PH bond (for those who have very oily nail plates or have easy peeling)
  8. Base coat
  9. Wipe off
  10. UV or LED lamp to harden the Color gel
  11. Top coat

Preparation:

  1. Start by shaping your nails to the desired length and shape.
  2. Push back the cuticles with a cuticle pusher, and lightly file the entire nail surface with a buffer to create a ridged surface for the material to adhere to.
  3. Wash the nail with Pre-cleanser using a lint-free napkin.
  4. For those who easily get breakouts due to oily nail beds: Apply a thin layer of PH-bond. Make sure the bonder does not come into contact with the skin.
    Let air dry.
  5. Then apply a thin layer of primer. Make sure the primer does not touch the skin.
    Let air dry.

NOTE! From now on, do not touch the nail with your fingers or anything else that could cause grease/dirt/dust or other things to end up on the nail surface.

7. Apply a thin layer of Base coat. The base coat helps protect and strengthen the nail while providing an adhesive surface for the material to adhere to. Make sure to cover the entire nail and avoid getting the base coat on the cuticles or surrounding skin.

8. Cure in the UV lamp for 60 seconds.

9. Apply a thin layer of Color gel in any color evenly over the nail surface.
Be sure to cover the entire nail and avoid getting too close to the cuticles or surrounding skin.

10. Cure in the lamp for 60 seconds.

Note: Applying too thick layers of Color gel can result in the gel not drying properly in the lamp, resulting in an uneven and "ridged" surface. It is better to apply several thin layers than a few thick layers.

11. If you want to create patterns or designs, you can use thin brushes or dotting tools to apply the gel in desired patterns.

12. Apply another thin layer of Color gel and then cure for 60 seconds.

13. Finish with a thin layer of Top coat and cure for 60-90 seconds.
Top coat protects and gives a glossy finish to your nails. (Also available in matte finish)
Avoid getting too close to the cuticles and surrounding skin.

14. Wipe off the sticky layer with Wipe off on a cotton ball.

15. Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water.

16. Then finish with Cuticle oil.
